Thx for the very appropriate link, David. This sentence sums it up, doesn’t it:
“For most of our history, there has been new land to farm, and we still farm as though there always will be. ”
Substitute water, fish, etc, and it would still be true – true that we still act as though there always will be more. We need to face that fact that we’re very near to hitting the wall where there will be dramatically less of everything because of our thoughtless resource extraction and pollution. And the next generation will be paying for it.
Now I was named after Franklin, except that my father didn’t like the name Frank.
So he named me Theodore instead.
Same thing.
To my dad.
Nice! What would FDR do if he was faced with climate change? Not business as usual!
here’s a bit of resonance from the NYT http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/01/opinion/01sun2.html
