Monday, September 26, 2001: Ottawa Tar Sands Action
There comes a time when you need to take a stand. When sending letters and signing petitions isn’t enough. When together we must say, “enough is enough — not on our watch”.
That time is now. We must act together for the health of our planet, our air, our water, our climate, and our children.
I plan to attend the solidarity rally. I had originally signed up for the sit-in but cannot risk arrest because I have some important medical diagnostics later on Monday and through the week.
I’m hoping that we’ll have thousands attending; the weather looks almost perfect on Monday’s forecast – sunny and a high of 26 Celsius!
Wonderful – both the forecast and your participation in the event. I am committed to the Moving Planet event and a local sustainability workshop this weekend, but found a low-carbon solution. A fellow member of our Citizens Climate Lobby group is in Ottawa this weekend to visit her daughter, and was able to arrange to stay an extra day with some help from me. So, she`s going to be there for both of us.
It will be interesting to see how much media coverage Monday`s action gets. My sense is that there will be more opportunities down the road for all of us concerned about the future to participate in civil disobedience in the future, if we aren`t able to tomorrow.
Christine!
I am so happy to find you. I couldn’t access your blog from your gravatar so thank goodness for eco-pressed. Look forward to getting caught up.
Hi Tammy – I’m glad you found me too! I love your blog – my roots are rural, although I live in the north these days. Your posts on food and nourishing the earth are thoughtful and often thought-provoking!
