I have a good friend over in Nanaimo, Dr. William Weller, retired professor from Vancouver Island University.

A few years ago, we were discussing the reason as to why it might be possible that more snow and ice storms were showing up across Canada.

He explained to me that the general warming trend was causing the arctic ice mass to become less and the open water to increase. As the arctic winds come over the open water, more moisture is getting picked up as opposed to when the wind travels over ice. Thus, the ingredients for snow and ice are picked up in ever increasing amounts as the ice melts.

And earlier this week we experienced a massive hailstorm on the B. C. southern coast. From various emails I received this storm dumped huge amounts of hail on an area which stretched for at least 50 miles. Even though I have lived here for over 50 years, I have never seen anything like it before.
