Solar Energy: An Infinite Alternative to a Finite Supply of Dead Things

Our solar panels have been delivered, and should be going up on our roof by the end of September. Shortly thereafter we will be feeding power back into Ontario Power Authority’s grid as part of the microFIT program, and getting paid to do so.

Here are some of my favourite quotes about solar energy:

I’d put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don’t have to wait ’til oil and coal run out before we tackle that.” Thomas Edison

“The world’s deserts can supply energy for every conceivable demand by humankind.” Dr. Gerhard Knies

Rather than continuing to base our economy on a finite supply of dead things, we can base it on sources that are practically infinite and eternal: the sun, the moon and the Earth’s inner fire.” Van Jones

Until the panels go up, this is how I’ve been utilizing solar and wind power, all for the cost of a few minutes of my time!

  1. Don’t worry, pictures will be posted as SOON as they’re up. But apparently it might take a bit longer than the end of September (so the installer, who’s also my “better half”, tells me).
